Jaime Fernandez, who was injured at the end of the Copa del Rey game that Unicaja played last night, suffers a grade 2 breakage of fibers in the femoral biceps of his right leg. Therefore, it is estimated that he will be out for at least 8 weeks.
The competition now enters into a parenthesis for Unicaja due to a new 'FIBA windows' for the qualifying games for the World Championship which will be celebrated in China. Up to 8 Unicaja players have been called up with their respective national teams to play two games between February 18 and 26. After the break, the remaining of the season will start: the final straight of the Liga Endesa and the 7DAYS Eurocup´s quarterfinals.
Unicaja´s assistant coach Paco Aurioles will take part of the cycle for coaches on Monday 18th (9:00 PM) at Los Guindos pavilion. This is an activity promoted by the Provincial Delegation in Malaga of the Andalusian Basketball Federation (FAB) and the Unicaja Baloncesto to promote the figure of the training coach.
Unicaja couldn´t beat the Iberostar Tenerife in the quarterfinals of the Copa del Rey, being defeated by 88 to 78. Luis Casimiro´s team fought in a match that was equaled in its first half. However, it could not recover the advantage acquired by the team from Canary Islands in the final stretch of the third quarter and the start of the last one. Milosavljevic with 16 points and 17 PIR was the most outstanding player of Unicaja.
Unicaja has practiced this morning at the Wizink Center in Madrid, home of the Copa del Rey. The team will open the competition this evening at 7:00 PM against Iberostar Tenerife. Luis Casimiro, Carlos Suárez and Viny Okouo have talked to the press before the morning practice.
