Unicaja point guard Alberto Díaz suffered an injury yesterday during the Liga Endesa opener against Real Madrid at the Movistar Arena. Upon the team’s arrival in Málaga this morning, he underwent an MRI at Quirónsalud Málaga Hospital, which revealed a muscle injury that will sideline him for 6 to 8 weeks.
On Monday, Unicaja Baloncesto was honored at Mahou San Miguel’s “Málaga, 60 Years of Shared Life” awards ceremony for its contribution to Málaga’s development, identity, and visibility.
Unicaja kicked off the season with a loss after falling to the powerful Real Madrid 89-87. Unicaja Baloncesto has reached an agreement to sign Matt Thomas (1.91 meters, 32 years old). The American shooting guard, who has experience in the Liga Endesa, is joining the team for the next two months, with an option to extend through the end of the season, pending a successful medical exam.
Unicaja Mijas lost to Melilla Ciudad del Deporte La Salle (54–74) in their final pre-season fixture. Javi Pérez de los Reyes’s side managed to bounce back from a difficult start and closed the gap to seven points in the final quarter, but the visitors once again imposed their physicality in the closing stages.
