The meeting at Quirónsalud Málaga Hospital marks the start of the preseason
Unicaja’s revamped roster attended its traditional press breakfast at Hospital Quirónsalud Málaga, the official medical provider for Unicaja Baloncesto for the past fifteen years. Txus Vidorreta, Alberto Díaz, Melwin Pantzar, and Dr. Miguel Marcos—Medical Director of Quirónsalud Málaga Hospital and Head of Medical Services for Unicaja Baloncesto—spoke with the press after the medical examinations were completed.
The Unicaja players and coaching staff attended a press breakfast today at Quirónsalud Málaga Hospital, an event that typically marks the conclusion of the team’s medical examinations. The only player missing from the event was one of the new members of the team coached by Txus Vidorreta, Amine Noua, who is currently in France training with his national team in preparation for the 2027 World Cup qualifiers. After completing the necessary medical tests, the players enjoyed breakfast on the spacious terrace of the hospital cafeteria. Once they had recharged their batteries, they spoke with the media to offer their initial thoughts on the upcoming 2026–27 season.
Dr. Miguel Marcos: “We evaluate all aspects related to athletic performance”
Dr. Miguel Marcos explained the procedure followed during the medical examinations, emphasizing that “all aspects related to athletic performance” are evaluated. Regarding the protocol, the head of Medical Services for Unicaja Baloncesto detailed that “the first step is to conduct an assessment, especially for new players. We review their history of surgeries and injuries.” Next, “they move on to an evaluation by our orthopedic surgeon, Dr. López Arévalo, and undergo a stress test in the Cardiology department. The next step is a particularly complex blood test, such as the one we’ve performed.
The event concluded with a group photo in front of the hospital alongside the medical staff responsible for conducting the physical examinations and representing the entire hospital that cares for the medical needs of the staff throughout the season, led by Dr. Miguel Marcos and Dr. Rafael López Arévalo, head of the Traumatology Department. Also present were the Cardiology department, with Drs. Enrique Puche and Antonio Esteban as heads of the department; and the Radiology team, represented by Drs. Nacho and Ernesto Rivera.
This Wednesday, physical and medical exams will continue at the Martín Carpena arena ahead of the start of the preseason. On Thursday, August 20, the team will begin ball work and contact drills, marking the start of Txus Vidorreta’s tenure as head coach of Unicaja.
