Unicaja Alhaurín de la Torre is looking to take a step forward in Lleida
The team coached by Mikel Ereño returns to action this Friday, November 6, at 8:30 p.m. for Matchday 7 of Liga U. The Malaga-based team will travel to Barris Nord to face Amara Lleida, which is coming off its first victory of the year.
Unicaja Alhaurín de la Torre faces another league match after sitting out the sixth round of the competition. Far from slowing down, the Málaga-based team has used these two weeks to continue training and further develop as a group. Now, it faces a matchup between two teams that both have a record of one win in five games. The game can be watched on the league’s YouTube channel and on DAZN.
The team will enter the game with a full roster, with the exception of Dani Carrasco, who is still recovering from the serious knee injury he suffered last March. The Malaga side remains three wins away from the spots that qualify for Group A and has one fewer game played, so the visit to Barris Nord represents a good opportunity to move closer to the top of the standings.
They’ll face an Amara Lleida team that earned its first win of the season last round after defeating Obradoiro U22 by a narrow margin of 69–73 at Fontes do Sar. The Lleida team had already shown signs of improvement in recent weeks, losing by narrow margins to Euskaltax Bilbao Basket (104–97) and Kids&Us Manresa (82–89).
In the victory over the Galician team, the collective performance of the players coached by Borja Comenge stood out. As many as four members of the roster scored in double digits, although the star of the game was Izan Martos. The shooting guard led his team in points (19), rebounds (7), and efficiency rating (27), putting together a very solid performance. Another highlight of the game was the Catalan team’s focus on outside shooting. Amara Lleida significantly increased its volume of three-point attempts, taking 22 shots—nearly 40% of all its field goal attempts.
Liga U Leader in Their Roster
Interestingly, two of Unicaja Alhaurín de la Torre’s upcoming opponent’s key players—Pau Torrens and Alexis Pou—did not participate in the team’s only victory to date. Both were part of Ilerna Lleida’s roster for the Liga Endesa and were unable to play in the Liga U game. Both players are integral to the team led by Gerard Encuentra, although only Torrens has seen playing time in the top national division. The Balearic point guard has already made three appearances in the Liga Endesa.
A product of the Bahía San Agustín youth system, Pau Torrens continues to live up to the expectations set after his outstanding first season in the Liga U. Last season, he finished as the league leader in both scoring (22.2 points) and efficiency rating (23.9 credits on average). His debut this season was spectacular. He scored 42 points—tying the league record—along with 6 rebounds, 7 assists, and a 50 efficiency rating. Although his numbers have leveled off in subsequent games, he continues to post elite averages of 24.3 points, 6 assists, and a 27.3 efficiency rating per game.
For his part, Alexis Pou arrived this summer from the FEB Third Division, where he stood out playing for Golf de Andratx and Flanigan Calvià. The Balearic forward made an excellent debut in the Liga U with 18 points and 5 rebounds, although his role and offensive output have since diminished.
Thus, Unicaja Alhaurín de la Torre and Amara Lleida will face off this Friday, November 6, at 8:30 p.m. at the Espai Fruita Barris Nord in a game corresponding to the seventh round of the Liga U, which can be watched both on the competition’s YouTube channel and on DAZN.
