Kevin Knox: “My main goal is to help the team win”

Power forward Kevin Knox was introduced on Thursday as Unicaja’s newest player. The 2.03-meter, 27-year-old American big man highlighted his desire to be part of the project in his first experience playing abroad and emphasized the strengths of his game that will help the team.

At his presentation, which took place in the Martín Carpena press room, Kevin Knox said, “I feel very lucky to be here. When my agent presented me with this opportunity to come to such a fantastic city as this one, to a great team, it was undoubtedly a blessing. So I’m very happy to be here and delighted to do whatever it takes to help this team win.”

For Unicaja’s new player, “Málaga is a fantastic city. Coming here means being able to do lots of things by the sea. I’m from Florida, so I’m used to the beach and the sunny weather. So this feels a bit like home: the weather, the beaches, the sea, the good food, the wonderful people… It reminds me a little of home. Without a doubt, it’s a fantastic place to be.”

Regarding Unicaja, Knox said, “It’s a great club. They’ve won in the past. It’s a fantastic team to be a part of; they help players improve. And I think my main goal is to come here and help my team win. This team has done very well this year and in previous years, so I just want to keep playing and help contribute to the wins.”

As for how he’s been welcomed in the locker room, the Florida native noted that “so far it’s been great. Getting to know the guys, the team, the coach… Everyone has welcomed me with open arms. Being able to go to Tuesday’s BCL game and feel the atmosphere of the fans was great. And just watching the team play, you can tell they play as a team—they play together. The coach does an excellent job on both ends of the court: offense and defense. And I just want to help the team in any way I can.”

Finally, when asked what he can bring to the team, the player emphasized that “in the United States, I used my versatility to shoot the ball, and I think I can bring that to European basketball. I think the game is different in Europe—the pace is slower, and games don’t have high scores. But I believe I can contribute my height, my versatility, and my ability to score and shoot, and on defense, use my height to grab rebounds and defend multiple positions. I think I can bring 100% of what I did in the United States here.”
